The Walls of Babylon

The main armies of Babylon was with the king on an expedition against the Elamites.  No one anticipated an attack against the city in their absence.  The mighty armies of the Assyrians came from the North.  The valiant defenders battled to hold the walls.  The survival of the city and hundreds of thousands of citizens depended on them.  They were few but brave.  Over the walls came the sound of yelling men, trampling horses and the deafening boom of the battering rams pounding the bronzed gates.  Terrified citizens were eagerly seeking news of the battle.  ‘Are we safe?  Will they get through?’  Banzar, an old warrior repeated the answer over and over.  ‘The walls of Babylon will protect you’.  For three weeks and five days the attack went on.  The day the slaughtered attackers piled up in front of the gate and each night they were carried back to be buried by their comrades.  On the fifth night of the fourth week things calmed down.  And at the first streaks of sunlight there were clouds of dust raised by retreating armies.  People rushed from their houses.  A chorus of joy echoed through the streets.

The walls of Babylon once again protected its citizens and its treasures, like it did century after century.  In the human race, there has always been an inherent desire and need for protection.  This is still true today.  We just developed better ways to protect ourselves. We guard ourselves against unexpected tragedies by building walls of insurance, savings accounts and dependable investments.

We cannot afford to be without adequite protection
